Services and Projects

Develop International Strategies and Plans
·         Worked with the CEO and Board of an engineering society to develop its first international strategic plan.  Facilitated day-long discussion with Board and CEO to discuss the organization's SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats), build upon its successes in the international arena, and analyze potential organizational models for greater outreach. As a result, drafted a set of realistic goals, objectives, and strategies of a plan that were then prioritized for implementation.
·         Worked with the senior management of a large medical society to analyze historic data, develop a new international strategic plan, and facilitate a day-long meeting to review and get buy-in of plan.
Conduct International Needs Assessments
·         Partnered with the senior staff and International Task Force of a large scientific organization to conduct an international member needs assessment, develop a dues structure for members in developing countries, and establish criteria and countries for future international expansion.
Develop  “Going Global” White Papers – Issues, Implications and International Organizational Models
·         Worked with an International Task Force of a trade association to draft a customized white paper on 'Going Global' and identified several issues for becoming more global. Some of these issues included changes in staff and volunteer mindset, rethinking its organizational structure to better respond to a growing international membership, and balancing the needs of its domestic members while continuing to expand its international program. In addition, also drafted a paper on the advantages and disadvantages of several organizational models, including strategic alliances, establishing chapters and opening up overseas offices.
·         Worked with a medical society to outline different structural models for organizing their members located outside the U.S., and working with their overseas counterparts.  Some of these options included establishing international chapters, creating international affiliates, forming strategic alliances, setting up licensing agreements, or a hybrid of these models. This medical society adopted an international affiliate model. Worked with them to create an international affiliation agreement that outlines the roles and responsibilities of each entity, and a Start-up Guide that outlined the objectives to be accomplished through this affiliation.
Recommend International Membership Growth and International Dues Structure Models
·         Worked with the senior management of a large construction-oriented international federation to examine their current dues structure and develop some alternative options for better meeting the needs of their international members. Some of the specific issues focused on the cost of membership, the cost to service their international members, the value of membership, and examples of how similar type organizations have addressed this issue.
Benchmark Best Practices
·         Conducted extensive interviews with nonprofit organizations that have successfully expanded voluntary certification programs internationally.  Results of benchmarking used in developing international strategy and business rules for developing two new global certifications.
·         Benchmarked three U.S. based trade associations that have international members to learn how they handle the dues structure for their international members, the value these international members bring to the association and whether international members comprise their association’s Board of Directors, and the process for recruiting them to the Board.

Recommend Overseas Providers (i.e., Association Management Companies) for International Expansion
·         Partnered with senior staff of a large health-related society to develop criteria and a rating system for evaluating proposals of overseas providers for an international market assessment.  Conducted an analysis and scoring of each proposal based on the criteria, along with strengths and weaknesses, and developed a set questions that staff should address with each finalist.
Cross-Cultural Training
·          Conducted a one-day training workshop for the staff of a large international trade association on cross-cultural awareness issues, and integrating an international dimension throughout the organization's operations.  Included customized case studies tailored to the specific issues of the organization.
